Below you'll find the build-up to the launch, including plenty of rumours. Turns out most of them were true.
Samsung Unpacked 2015 - the next Galaxy
The theme for the original teaser on Samsung's countdown page is 'big'. Both the Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ are phablets, so that makes sense, but what's interesting is the silhouette image shows a third and even larger device. Could it be a new tablet?
On top of Samsung's pile is the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. In the middle sits the new Galaxy Note 5 with its S-Pen stylus popped out. At the bottom, perhaps the recently confirmed Galaxy Tab S2 in its 8in incarnation or another unknown device such as a tablet with the edge screen feature.

New Note 5
The annual upgrade to Samsung's Galaxy Note phablet traditionally comes at a pre-IFA press event in September, but Samsung is expected to jump the gun with the new Note 5, announcing it several weeks earlier at its 13 August Unpacked event. Rumour has it that Samsung hopes this will help it to more effectively challenge Apple, whose new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are expected in September. Also see: Best new phones 2015.
Various images and specifications have leaked for the new Note 5, and perhaps the most worrying for Note fans is the fact the Note 5 will no longer feature a removable battery or microSD card slot (so we hear). Instead, you can expect to find the same metal and glass exterior as was introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The Note 5 is expected to come with a 5.7in Quad-HD screen, and it will have a focus on audio. The S Pen stylus will be present, but the core hardware will get an upgrade. Rumour has it there will be Samsung's own Exynos 7422 chipset and 4GB of RAM. Also see: Meet the new Note 5 - Galaxy Note 5 in pictures.

New Galaxy S6 Edge+
We've heard rumours of both a Samsung Galaxy S6+ and a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. Up until now we thought we might see both phablets appear at Samsung Unpacked, yet only one is shown in the teaser image. The vast majority of rumours online suggest this new phablet will in fact be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, which kind of makes sense given that the Note 4 launched alongside a curved-screen variant, the Note Edge. (Plus there's the fact that MobileFun is already stocking a range of S6 Edge+ cases for pre-order.)
The forthcoming Galaxy S6 Edge+ (or S6 Edge Plus) is expected to be a larger version of the S6 Edge with similar specs. We could see a 5.4- or 5.5in SuperAMOLED Quad-HD screen, 32GB of storage and a 16Mp rear camera. Rumour has it the Snapdragon 808 processor will reside inside. Also see: Best smartphones 2015.

New Galaxy Tab S2 tablet
Samsung last month confirmed its Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets, which are expected to arrive in the UK in August. We're waiting on UK prices, but the Wi-Fi versions cost 399- (8in) and 499 Euro (9.7in) respectively, while LTE adds 70 Euro to the price. Also see: Best new tablets 2015.
It's quite possible that Samsung is using Unpacked to showcase its high-end S2 tablets, and it could well be the 8in version we see in the countdown to Unpacked teaser.
The 8in Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is a 5.6mm-thick, 265g tablet with an 8in 2048x1536-pixel Super AMOLED screen. There's Samsung's own Exynos 5433 octa-core processor inside, along with Mali T760MP6 graphics and 3GB of RAM. You get an 8Mp camera at the rear and 2.1Mp at the front, plus connectivity options including ac Wi-Fi, optional 4G LTE and a touch-input fingerprint scanner. MicroSD support lets you bolster the 32- or 64GB of internal storage with an additional 128GB. Also see: Best tablets 2015.
Other possibilities at Samsung Unpacked 2015
Other possibilities for products on show at Samsung Unpacked 2015 include a new version of the Samsung Gear VR and the rumoured Gear A smartwatch. The latter, a wearable that runs the Tizen OS, has been widely tipped to launch alongside the Note 5 in August.
Then, of course, there's also Samsung Pay, Samsung's Apple Pay- and Android Pay-rivalling mobile payments service, which the company has always said will arrive on its next 'big' device. Samsung Pay will also be available for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Also see: Samsung Pay vs Apple Pay vs Android Pay.
